ShetkaStone is easy to care for. To ensure that your surface will look beautiful for years to come, follow the guidelines below.

Routine care of your ShetkaStone surface
For everyday cleaning, simply wipe your ShetkaStone surface with a damp cloth, then wipe dry. This will remove most dirt and residue from all types of finishes. Some colors require more frequent cleaning to maintain their beauty. Darker colors tend to require more attention than lighter colors. Experience has shown that a film may build up on the surface if water is left to dry on it. This film is caused by minerals in hard water and may dull the look of the surface, making the finish appear blotchy or uneven. To prevent this film buildup, wipe the surface completely dry after spills and cleaning. For instructions on how to remove film buildup, see “Removing fine scratches, blotches, and film” below.

Preventing heat damage
Although ShetkaStone is heat resistant, it is important to protect the surface from direct exposure to heat. As with all surface materials, do not place hot pots or pans directly on the surface. Always use heat trivets or hot pads when placing hot objects on the surface, and always place hot pads under any portable heat generating appliances. Allow cookware to cool before placing it on a ShetkaStone surface.

Preventing other damage
In most cases, ShetkaStone can be repaired if it’s damaged. Avoid getting strong chemicals such as paint removers, nail polish remover, oven cleaners, etc. on your ShetkaStone surface. If a spill does occur, promptly flush the surface with water to fully rinse off the chemical. Do not cut directly on ShetkaStone surfaces. Always use a cutting board.

Removing fine scratches, blotches, and film
To remove fine scratches, blotches, and film, use soapy water with a grey Scotchbrite pad, scrubbing in a circular motion. WIPE SURFACE COMPLETELY DRY. Check to see if spot is gone. If it isn’t, repeat the procedure, applying more pressure on the scrubbing pad. Continue scrubbing the affected areas until all film is removed. NOTE: While this procedure may remove or minimize the look of very fine scratches, other deeper scratches may remain. They may be removed by following the procedure below, or you may need to contact your installer to refinish your surface.

Removing minor scratches
First, wash the area where the scratch is located; be sure to remove any film on the surface, as this film may clog the abrasive pads. Begin by gently wet sanding with green Trizac paper in a circular pattern; be careful not to press too hard, as this may actually leave deeper scratches. Rinse the Trizac paper periodically during this process to remove any built-up residue. Once the entire scratch has been removed, lightly wet sand with a grey Scotchbrite pad in a circular motion, then clean the surface with water and dry thoroughly. Check to see if the sanded area blends with the rest of the surface. If it does, great—you’re done! If it doesn’t, wet sand with the Scotchbrite pad over the entire surface to match the repaired area. If needed, continue the wet sanding process using the grey Scotchbrite pad until the desired sheen is achieved. Rinse out all pads and allow them to air dry before putting them away. An alternative to this process is to contact your installer to arrange for professional refinishing.
